This past weekend in 2022 I invited my niece to go with me to my first Timpanogos Storytelling Festival and it absolutely entranced me. Better than TV or any CGI movie I’ve ever seen. “I want to learn how to do this,” I told myself. Then, before I could talk myself out of it, I looked to see if there was a guild or group in my area where I could learn. And here I am.
I’m a, mother of 4, grandmother of 6. My husband and I have been married for 42 years. I was born in Utah county, and both parents are from there as well. I was raised in Southern California, Indio (near Palm Springs), and lived the first 10 years of marriage in California as well, (Orange county and the bay area). I’m a seamstress and lately, a quilter. (That’s how I cope with madness. I take disparate and sometimes ugly pieces of fabric, cut them up and sew them back together, and create order and beauty from chaos). I read, garden, embroider, organize stuff so I can make another mess, and constantly listen to audiobooks. I’m a natural introvert. Which isn’t to say I’m unfriendly or afraid of public speaking, I just don’t do well with small talk, especially in big groups. I like conversations that matter; that have weight and substance. I’ve always treasured times around the campfire or sitting in a darkened room while members of my family told stories or read aloud.
